I am proud to be an American because automotive entrepreneur George Hurst developed to “jaws of life” which extricates people trapped in automobile crashes.

I am proud to be an American because the Edward J. Claghorn invented the first automobile seat belts in 1885, but it took until 1956 to be offered as a safety option on the automobile.

I am proud to be an American because Allen Breed invented the crash sensing technology for the airbag in 1968.

I am proud to be an American because Cadillac was the first car with safety glass windows as standard equipment.

I am proud to be an American because General Motors introduced the energy absorbing steering column.

I am proud to be an American because Detroit was the first city to install a stop sign (1914) and a three color stop light (1919) to make intersections safer.
